Design Purpose
The purpose of this body of work is to develop calligraphic skills and deepen an understanding of letterform structure, rhythm, and proportion.
The pieces are created as an ongoing personal practice, without commercial intent, and serve as a long-term foundation for typographic thinking and potential future type design.
Design Approach
The process is based on regular, manual work with historical scripts. Each piece functions as an exercise in tool control, pacing, and letter construction.
Rather than stylistic experimentation, the focus is placed on structural accuracy and a conscious application of the rules specific to each script.
Visual System
The works are based on classical calligraphic styles, including Beneventan-Monte Cassino script, Foundational, Fraktur, Gothic Scripts, and Uncial. Traditional tools and techniques are used, with restrained compositions that emphasize the letter and its relationship to space.
Repetition and consistency allow for a clear observation of skill development over time.
Outcome
The result is a collection of works documenting an ongoing learning process and refinement of craft.
The project functions as a typographic foundation, strengthening visual sensitivity and potentially informing future editorial projects or the development of an original typeface.
Occasional applied works (such as ceremonial diplomas) remain a natural but secondary outcome of this practice.
