Challenge
Nearly twenty chronicles, extensive photographic archives, documents and personal records had to be reviewed, digitised, selected and structured into a coherent narrative.
The responsibility extended beyond organising information. The exhibition needed to honour the people who had built Malwa over decades, while remaining contemporary and engaging for younger generations and accessible to a wider Cypriot audience.
Solution
Working closely with MALWA’s founder, historical material was reviewed and organised around the areas that shaped the association’s identity: music (in Polish: muzyka - M), community activity (aktywnosc - A), literature (literatura - L), exhibitions (wystawy - W) and social initiatives (akcje - A).
Rather than recreating the visual language of the past, the exhibition uses a contemporary editorial approach to give archival material new clarity while preserving its authenticity and emotional value.
Design system
Each panel operates on three levels of engagement: colour and letterform attract attention from a distance; a dominant archival image emerges on approach; typography and detailed content reward closer reading.
Restrained typography, strong colour fields and carefully treated archival photography create a consistent system without imposing a uniform aesthetic on material spanning 25 years.
Outcome
The exhibition gives that history a shared visual form - honouring those who built Polish cultural life in Cyprus while making their legacy visible and meaningful to those who come after them.
